5 musicians who started on Vine
Social media is an awesome way for new artists to share their talent with the world. But before TikTok took over, there was Vine, remember that? We actually have it to thank for introducing us to some of our favourite artists. Here are five who got their start there:
Shawn Mendes: Shawn was part of Magcon, a group that was huge back then, touring the world and everything. He blew up by posting 6-second song covers until he got discovered and signed. In 2014, he dropped his first original song, Life of the Party, and the rest is history;
Jack&Jack: Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson were also part of Magcon and made some of the most viral songs of the time, like Like That and Wild Life. Now, they’re out touring Europe (and we’ll be there) and still making music;
Ruth B: You probably know her from Dandelions, but way before that, she went viral with Lost Boy, which she first posted in 6-second Vine snippets. That song ended up blowing up and kickstarting her career;
Jacob Sartorious: He just made a comeback with a fresh new sound, but back then, he was famous for lip-syncing videos on Vine. That eventually led to him dropping Sweatshirt, his first original song (which was everywhere at the time).
Olivia O’Brien: She first got noticed when she posted a cover of a Gnash song on Vine. Turns out, he saw it, and they ended up collaborating on i hate u, i love u, which became a massive hit.
We love discovering new artists through social media and seeing them blow up. Who’s your favourite artist that started online?
